emergencies and helps people lead safe and healthy lives.

Skills Needed
Mature person with good written
and verbal communication skills, and a willingness to respond
to emergency situations when needed. Accept “on-call” assignments
of at least two 24-hour periods per month. Must possess a
valid NYS Driver’s license and be at least 17 years
of age. Training is provided.

Responsibilities
Disaster Action Team (DAT) members
are specially trained to support victims of emergencies such
as fires, natural disasters, floods, etc. With their help,
the Chapter can be quickly mobilized for disaster response.
DAT members provide immediate, on-the-scene assistance with
food, clothing and shelter to victims of disaster in accordance
with local and national policies of the American Red Cross.
On average, the Greater Buffalo Chapter responds to 1 fire
each day, 365 days a year. Over 50 percent of the people
assisted are under the age of 18.
